Marcação a laser é uma tecnologia empregada principalmente na etapa de beneficiamento, como alternativa mais sustentável ao modelo tradicional de lavanderia do jeans.

Foi desenvolvida para substituir processos altamente poluentes e prejudiciais aos trabalhadores como o lixado manual, o jato de areia (ou sand blasting), spray de permanganato, manchas de peróxido de hidrogenio, tagging, puídos e outras técnicas manuais utilizadas para criar o efeito vintage e desgastado dos jeans que tanto adoramos.

Porém esta tecnologia vai muito além quando combinada com a criatividade de um designer: as possibilidade de efeitos são - sem exagero - infinitas. Estampas all over, localizadas, texturas, ilusões de ótica, efeitos gráficos ou com cara artesanal...

Como funciona?

O laser passa rapidamente pela superfície do tecido; a luz se converte em calor que entalha o tecido e sublima o pigmento de um tecido tingido ou queima um tecido cru, "imprimindo" o design que previamente foi elaborado por um laser designer. Este design pode ser gráfico, com textos e desenhos como na jaqueta do video, mas o principal uso é para reproduzir os desgastados vintage originais, com suas marcas de uso, bigodes e rasgos.

Estas peças são parte do projeto Sustainable Denim Wardrobe 2019, resultado de colaboração entre Jeanologia, Lenzing Fibers e Endrime.

Por que é mais sustentável?

Porque possibilita os mesmos efeitos de lavanderia que o modelo tradicional, sem o uso de produtos químicos tóxicos e processos que são extremamente prejudiciais para a saúde dos trabalhadores, o meio ambiente e inclusive o consumidor final. Além disso, tem alta produtividade por ser extremamente rápido e não gera emissões, já que a fumaça resultante do processo é filtrada pela própria máquina.

What is Laser Marking?

It is a technology used in garment finishing as a more sustainable alternative to the denim industry's traditional processes.

It was developed to substitute highly toxic and harmful processes like hand sanding, sand blasting, permanganate spray, bleach stains, tagging and other handmade techniques applied to create the distressed denim look we love.

But this technology goes far beyond when combined with creativity: the resulting effects possibilities are endless. All over prints, textures, trompe l'oeils, graphic or handmade-like effects...

How does it work?

The laser passes rapidly on the surface of the fabric; the light is converted to heat that engraves the fabric and sublimates the pigment of a dyed textile or burns a raw one, marking the design that was previously created by a laser designer. This design can be graphic, with text and draws like the jacket in the video, but the main use is to reproduce fade downs inspired by true vintage garments, their distress marks, whiskers and breaks.

Why is it more sustainable?

Because it allows the creation of the same effects that are created by the traditional industry, but without the use of toxic chemicals and harmful processes that are bad for environment, the workforce and even the costumer. In addition, it's highly productive due to the process' quickness and it doesn't result in any emissions, as the air is filtered by the machine to clean it from the smoke.
